EMOBILE Applies for Field Trial License of
Next Generation Mobile Telecommunication System "LTE"
(Long Term Evolution)

EMOBILE Ltd.(Headquarters:Toranomon,Minato-ku,Tokyo; Representative Director,Chairman & CEO:Sachio Semmoto) and eAccess Ltd. (Headquarters:Minato-ku,Tokyo;Representative Director & President:Koji Fukata) (hearinafter:"the companies") announced today that EMOBILE submitted a field trial licence application for LTE to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The outline of the field trial is as follows:

1. Schedule (plan):Late December 2008 through May 31,2009
2. Location of base stations:Shimbashi area of Minato ward,Tokyo
3. Field trial area:
Shimbashi,Toranomon and Shiba (please refer to the map below)
4. Field trial:The field trial is planned to evaluate the following items of the LTE network system, cell design methods, and capital expenditure efficiency:
  • Radiowave propagation
  • Throughput
  • MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) transmission performance valuation
  • Applications (VoIP,streaming,online games,etc.)
  • Multi-cell,multi-user test (interference characteristics,sector throughput,handover technology,etc.)

  • EMOBILE and eAccess are expected to be the first operaters to conduct an LTE outdoor field trial in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The companies aim to adopt LTE during the first half of 2011.

With a proven track record as a telecom operator focusing on mobile broadband,EMOBILE foresees ever growing market needs for high-speed mobile services. Further,on January 1,2008,eAccess set up a New Business Development Division to oversee cross-functional research and development. The results of these efforts are evident that the companies have played leading roles in determining technical requirements for LTE (TDD:Time Division Duplex) as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications'efforts since February 2008 to set out technical requirements for the 2GHz frequency band (TDD). The companies are actively engaged in the field of next-generation mobile networks and continue contributing to further penetration of broadband services.
LTE is a standard of next-generation mobile communication system. Major companies such as AT&T Mobility,Verizon Wireless,T-Mobile,and NTT docomo have already announced that they are working on their own tests and studies. EMOBILE and eAccess continue working proactively to further promote the growth of mobile broadband services.

    * LTE is an advanced communication standard of High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) based on 3G Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) systems. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP),which sets standards of W-CDMA,is working to set out a standard for LTE with the aim of facilitating of the maximum downlink speed of over 100Mbps and the maximum uplink speed of over 50Mbps.
